It has a very well documented history, including its original log book, list of owners, race history, restoration details, receipts and photographs. This car has been well cared for and would be a true asset to anyone interested in racing a proven race classic.
This Mk1 Lotus Cortina was first registered in the UK as a road car in 1965. Only in the early 1980’s was it rebuilt as a race car. It was then shipped to Australia when its owner at that time immigrated in 1986. The CAMS log book was issued in September of that year and it went on to race in Appendix J (now Group N) and club events in New South Wales for a further 3 years.
In 1991 the owner began a series of improvements. The body was stripped and rebuilt (by Classic Autocraft Sydney). The engine, drive train and suspension were all rebuilt to race/rally specification. On completion the revived Mk1 Lotus Cortina enjoyed 3 years racing in the Targa Tasmania.
It was then sold to a collector who stored the car for several years until it was purchased and taken to the track again to compete in club sprints and tarmac rallies including the Classic Adelaide in 2001.
